Some 2013 Letters from a 5th grade visit to Centennial Elementary School in Bartlett, IL ( Last names are omitted for privacy and the name of the author was never revealed) It
was very hard to choose which ones to highlight.
"I really enjoyed the book and think the dream was a nice touch. I like how you covered the whole story because it makes it easier to understand the event and how it came to be rather than rushing into the main event. You are also an astonishing artist and writer so I would definitely buy your books. I think you have a career ahead of you. And if you don't acheive on your first try, never give up and try again. On a scale of 1 - 10, I rate your book as 10. The only thing I knew about this event is that he got shot by John Wilkes Booth at the theater. This definitely gave me info. You did awesome and you should be happy. Stay motivated" - Marcus I like the art factor of the story, I don't know who it is, but he or she is amazing. The book is really good, and very interesting. I can understand this book perfectly. It explains Lincoln's life in an easy way to understand. I think this book is a just right book for me, and for "z" beyond readers. The story ended sooo sadly. My eyes started tearing, not because of the book, but my glasses were anoying me." - Sophia "This book is very interesting, but the vocab is a little strong. Booth is a scary little ninja. George is a good man not killing someone. Powell is scary! The drawings are a 10. All in all this graphic novel is mind - blowing." - Unsigned "I loved the drawings they are really cool. I wanted to know that if someone killed someone in that time would they be hung or shot dead. I think this book is should be for 6th grade and up because younger kids would be sorta scared by this story. Why would they set the barn on fire instead of going inside?" - Alaina "Oh my God.These are amazing drawings and writing. Very discriptive. I am pretty sure Mr. Person did this book. Wow! Awesome! - Elizabeth "Pictures are amazing, and the book is very descriptive. I'd rate the pictures a 10, and the book is defintenly a 10. I love how it explains the dates and and times in the book. I love the action and flashbacks, and also suspence. I love how plot (book) is real and very realistic. This wasvery interesting for me." - Tanner "I really like the pictures but I do think the text is more challenging. BUT I can follow along. It's really wierd that he dreampt he was dead, FREAKY! Your pictures are amazing. Soooo good. Your text is very detailed but a little hard for 5th grade. 6 or 7 grades is good. Really good. Do another!" - Grace "I love your drawings, very detailed. The vocabulary was a little tough for me to follow along. I love how he dreams about his own death. Did you know that my B-day is on the 13th? So amazing right? I loved all the new facts that I learned from reading this Graphic Novel! Booth is very scary I wouldn't want to be Lincoln back then. I really Loved it. Continue more writing and drawing." - Unsigned "You have great describing words! Nice words You have really good illustrations You really made this History come alive. Really detailed illustrations. Loved it!"***** - Unsigned "I rate it a 10! I like the shadows and the laid back colors. Shorter pages. Your writting is discriptive so actually keep the length. Your ideas were amazing, love the dream page best! The facial drawings are very good because they are detailed. I love the mustaches! It was different then all the stories about Abe. The gun scene = good but scary, well not really. Awesome story!" - Paige "I think that the pictures are amazing. The text is easy to follow but the pictures help tell the story. Now I know a little more about the killing of our 16th President." - Unsigned 2014 Letters from a school visit. "You made History sound so interesting." - Avi "The best part about the book is that you did cartoons on one side and writing on the other side. I learned so much." - Kimberly "I did not know alot about the Lincoln assassination but now I know alot more because of your book." - Amanda "I really enjoyed the drawings, they were amazing. Lincoln was my favorite President. I'm fascinated why Booth murdered Lincoln. I really enjoyed how there was a page of information and a comic page. I think it was a great idea. I loved the book. It was the best book ever. - Jenny "I wasn't a big fan of History but now I think it's really interesting." - Olivia "I learned alot of things about the assassination that I never knew. Even though most were sad." - Jorg "I learned that at first John Wilkes Booth really wanted to kidnap Lincoln, but his hate grew deeper and he decided to kill him. I really enjoyed the pictures.
